City of Palouse:
08/01: The owner of the Palouse Car Wash reported that someone had taken some sheet metal siding from a pile of scrap during remodeling of the car wash.
08/03: Suspicious Person, SR 27 at north city limits. A concerned citizen observed a male peering into vehicles at a residence. An officer was dispatched but was unable to locate the person.
08/05: Domestic Dispute, 600 Block W. Church Street. A resident called to report that he and another male were engaged in an argument over child custody, and the second male would not leave. An officer responded, but the second male had gone.
08/07: Loose Dog, 400 Block W. Main Street. A citizen called to report a stray yellow lab. An officer was unable to locate the dog.
08/07: Suspicious Vehicle, 700 Block West Chuch Street. A resident called to report a suspicious silver SUV sitting on the side of the road with the engine running for over an hour. An officer contacted the driver, who was talking on a cell phone.
08/09: Indecent Exposure, Bridge and Almota Streets. A citizen called to report that a young male was exposing himself to passing motorists. Thomas J. Nisse, of Palouse, was arrested for indecent exposure.
08/09: Loose Dog, 200 Block W. Almota Road. A citizen reported a loose tri-color collie with no tags. An officer impounded the dog at the Humane Society.
08/09: Domestic Dispute, 200 Block East Houghton Street. An officer responded to an in-progress domestic dispute. The male party, Eric N. Gearhart assaulted the responding officer. Gearhart was arrested and booked into the Whitman County Jail for Domestic violence assault, and assaulting a police officer.
08/14: Assist Outside Agency, Pullman Police. An officer was contacted by a Pullman Police Officer to help locate and contact a suspect living in Palouse, who was involved in a motor vehicle accident.
08/15: Civil Standby, 400 Block N Myott Street. An officer was contacted to be at her resident while she removed her belongings because she feared her husband would become violent.
08/16: Barking dogs, 600 Block E Whitman Street. A resident called to report dogs had been barking for over an hour. An officer verified the complaint and posted a written letter of warning on the door.
08/21: Weapons offense, 200 Block E. Whitman Street. A resident called to report a child shooting a pellet gun near the police department. An officer contacted the child, took him home, and advised a parent of city ordinance prohibiting shooting a BB or pellet gun within city limits.
08/21: Loose Dog, 500 Block E. Union Street. A resident called to report a loose dog she had captured at her home. An officer took the dog into custody and release it to the owner with a verbal warning.
08/22: Animal Welfare, 100 Block E Main Street. A citizen called to report three dogs that had been left in a car for over an hour. An officer responded but the vehicle was gone upon arrival.
08/23: Malicious Mischief, 400 Block W Main Street. A resident called to report that someone keyed their vehicle parked on the street. No suspects or leads.
08/23: Animal Complaint, SR 27. A citizen called to report a cow on SR 27. The animal was moved to a field on the south side of the roadway and the owner notified.
08/23: Traffic Complaint, Palouse Cove Road. A resident called to complain about vehicles speeding up to 50 mph prior to leaving town. Officers have performed emphasis patrol and contacted speeding drivers.
08/28: Civil Complaint, Palouse RV Park. City staff advised a tenant at the RV park was still there after his rent expired. Other citizens also reported odd behavior from the tenant, including defecating in the garbage can of a local business. The tenant made arrangements to have his trailer and belongings removed the next day.
08/29: Dog at Large, 400 Block W. Main Street. A resident reported a stray dog and transferred custody to an officer at the police department. The dog had a license tag, and was taken to the owner with a verbal warning.
Town of Garfield:
08/02: Speeding, East Main Street. An officer contacted the driver of a vehicle driving more than 40 mph in a 25 mph zone and issued a notice of infraction.
08/05: Loose Dog, 200 Block N 4th Street. An officer observed a black lab puppy in the street several times, and saw it nearly get hit by a vehicle. The officer contacted the owner and issued a verbal warning.
08/15: Speeding, East Main Street. An officer contacted the driver of a vehicle driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone and issued a notice of infraction.
08/15: Domestic Violence Assault, 100 Block W Wesley. A resident called to report that her boyfriend had assaulted her during an argument, and broke a door in her home. Jimmy A. LaPlante, of Seattle, was arrested and booked into jail.
08/18: Theft, Garfield School. An employee reported that a Nintendo Wii and some shop tools had been taken some time during the past month. No suspects or leads.
08/18: Barking Dogs, 800 Block W. Spokane Street. A resident called to complain about barking dogs. The owner was contacted an a verbal warning issued.
08/19: Animal Welfare, 100 Block W. California Street. A resident called to report two dogs in a neighboring back yard that were without shelter or water in the hot sun. An officer checked on the dogs and determined the complaint was unfounded.
08/22: Animal Neglect, 700 Block W Main Street. A resident reported a large dog caught up in a cable with no food or water. An officer contacted the owner, who said that the dog was sick and he was taking him to the vet.
08/25: Paper Service, 520 N I Street Palouse. A Garfield resident requested court civil papers be served to the respondent living in Palouse. Papers served without incident.
08/26: Juvenile Dispute, City Park. A child reported being called dirty names by another child.
08/28: Suspicious Person. A resident reported a possible transient walking through town southbound toward Palouse. An officer was unable to locate the person.
08/29: Public Nuisance, 300 Block N. 5th Street. A resident complained that the neighbor’s compost pile was getting too smelly. An officer contacted the subject of the complaint and advised him of the situation. The subject said he would remedy the situation.
