Block Watch of Palouse is an organized community program involving you and your neighbors in an effort to watch out for each other and help local law enforcement.

It is designed to enlist the active participation of citizens in cooperation with the police to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. The ideals are simple and something we all can do.

What is Block Watch?

  • It is becoming acquainted with your neighbors.
  • It is working together to identify and solve problems in our community.
  • It is helping the police by being aware of and reporting any unusual activities as they occur. You know what is "normal" activity in your neighborhood. If it is suspicious to you, call and report it.
  • It is implementation of crime prevention techniques to enhance security.
  • It is not apprehending someone. Leave that to the police.
  • It is putting the neighbor back into neighborhoods.

How does Block Watch work?

Block Watch works by having you and your neighbors use simple techniques to deter, delay, detect, and report crime -- to improve the quality of life for the neighborhood. Being aware of criminal activity can help to keep your neighborhood safe. Promptly reporting all criminal or suspicious activity to 911, or to the Palouse Police Department at 509-878-1611, helps the police to assist you in promoting a safe and healthy neighborhood.

Joining Block Watch is easy!

Since the police are unable to cover every neighborhood at all times, you can help by being a part of the Block Watch efforts. You and your neighbors can stay safe by looking out for one another. To participate in the next Block Watch meeting, contact the Palouse Police Department at 509-878-1611, or send our officers an email at police@palouse.com. You can also contact your neighborhood captain, Steve Gill, at 509-878-1458.
