Deadline for entries is June 19, 2009!

Contest Information:

  • Submitted recipes, which must use an easily visible amount of pearled barley, will be prepared by local cooks for evaluation by qualified judges.

  • Recipes must be typed. Handwritten recipes will not be accepted.

  • Recipes may be emailed to grain@palouse.com or mailed to the address below. Please include complete name and mailing address.

  • Deadline for submission of recipes is June 19, 2009.

  • Submitted recipes will be pre-screened to select 30 recipes for the cook-off.

  • Selection will consider ease of preparation, availability of ingredients and cost.

  • Please limit to 3 submissions per entrant.

  • Recipes should make 4 - 6 servings.

  • Recipes will be prepared exactly as written, so don’t forget to include those special techniques.

  • Ingredients should be readily available at a typical supermarket.

  • In the event that duplicate recipes are received, the first one received will be prepared for judging.

  • Recipes previously winning prize money for this contest are not eligible.

  • Submission of recipes gives the Palouse Chamber of Commerce and Palouse Grain Growers Inc. the right to distribute the recipes with no compensation to the entrant.

Judges will choose a first, second and third place winner.
These three recipes, plus two honorable mention recipes of the
judges’ choice, will be prepared in large quantity for public sampling
at the town’s annual celebration on September 19th.
